2013 County Championship – chapter seven

We missed a week. We’re not apologising.

1st – Sussex

Sussex have moved into the top spot after positively obliterating Somerset last week. The central figure was 33-year-old Aussie seamer, Steve Magoffin, who returned positively ludicrous match figures of 12-31. Those numbers look so unfamiliar as bowling figures you’re inclined to see them as a reference to a passage from the Bible or something. But they’re not. They’re what happens when a county is bowled out for 76 and 108 in successive innings.

2nd – Yorkshire

It was Yorkshire’s turn to play Somerset this week, but they could only manage a draw. Adil Rashid made another hundred and now averages 254.50 in this year’s County Championship. Two of our players to watch did well too. James Hildreth made 115 for Somerset and Adam Lyth followed up a first innings 105 with 57 not out.

3rd – Middlesex

Middlesex also drew, but didn’t get as many bonus points as Yorkshire did and so fall below them. They played Durham and got Onionsed in the first innings with the Gateshead Go-Kart (couldn’t think of a faster vehicle beginning with G) taking 5-39.

The next chapter

Somebody plays someone else, unless they’re having a week off. We’ll be honest, we haven’t checked. It’s sunny outside and England aren’t making much of a case for staying in and watching the one-dayer so we’re trying to get this over with as quickly as possible.

DON'T BE LIKE GATT!

Mike Gatting wasn't receiving the King Cricket email when he dropped that ludicrously easy chance against India in 1993.

Coincidence?

Why risk it when it's so easy to sign up?

  1. Comprehensive analysis, KC. Many thanks.

What else could anyone want to know? Terrific.
