You can download the latest version of International Cricket Captain for free here.

It’s a two day trial version, but you can get a code after that and play the full version. Or you can buy it from Amazon for just £9.50.

Initial impressions are that changes are minimal, but welcome. The last version was actually pretty decent and this seems a slight refinement of that. We’ve done a full review of International Cricket Captain 2009 if you want more info.

The trial version did completely freeze our computer when Australia took the new ball, but it wouldn’t be International Cricket Captain if that didn’t happen every now and again. Having the computer crash is what reminds you that maybe it’s time to start interacting with society again.

DON'T BE LIKE GATT!

Mike Gatting wasn't receiving the King Cricket email when he dropped that ludicrously easy chance against India in 1993.

Coincidence?

Why risk it when it's so easy to sign up?

  1. man, i got well obsessed with this game when i was in my teens. my dad had to tell me to ease off and do my homework.

it was around the time of the 1999 world cup and england’s tour to south africa. graeme swann kept winning games for me by taking hatfuls of wickets even though he never actually played for england at that time.

the concept was eclipsed by playstation games such as EA sports and brian lara cricket, but i might have to revisit this classic.

aggers and gower used to do the commentary.

    lovely.

  2. How long until they bring out proper cricket on the wii so you can play five day test matches in real time?

  3. Think there might be a Wii cricket game coming out, actually. Wii games err towards the quick play option though.

  4. Looks interesting, will have to give it a try. Word is that Ashes cricket 2009 for wii will be released in the UK mid to late August.
No release date for us aussies though, even though the port is being done by an Australian company. 🙁

  5. Meh.

    Installed it.

England scored 600 thanks to a chanceless century from Mark Butcher (replacing Strauss as opener and captain in a bold selection decision) until the muppet ran himself out, then collapsed to 150 all out in the second innings, chasing 200, having enforced the follow on and then bowled appallingly in the second innings.

    Uninstalled it.

Even pretend cricket has the ability to get me in a foul mood with England’s incompetence. I can barely cope with following test matches as it is, I don’t need to increase my stress levels with this.

  6. The particular International Cricket Captain in charge for the screen shot looks to be caught in two minds. The short leg is an attacking option, although I’d like to see him a fraction closer, but then there’s this neither Arthur nor Martha look to the slips. What is that – a second slip and a fourth slip? Well, I suppose if you can’t be good you have to be lucky, and that is a field that requires a lot of luck.

  7. The batter at the non-strikers end doesn’t appear to be backing up either….bunch of amateurs

  8. It might be more fun to play without a screen. I always prefer the radio commentary.

Does anyone know who the umpire is from that rear view?

The boundary rope has seen better days.

  9. I like the old-fashioned sight screen on wheels, with a huge crowd sitting behind it. presumably half those people have to get up and move every time someone moves the sight screen.

Can I play the role of the sight screen mover in this game or do I have to be the cricket captain?

  10. I was wondering just how many people were actually behind the sight screen. Things like that can make me wake up in the middle of the night. Hopefully KC can provide a shot from another camera angle to put my mind at ease.

It isn’t just the old fashioned sight screen, everyone in the crowd seems to be wearing a grey overcoat. I would have guessed this was a reply of the 1948 Ashes apart from the umpires short white coat

  11. I like it, Ged. There’s a whole world of possibilities for gaming manufacturers to expand on your ideas. Better get it patented.

I particularly like this last idea. You set up a character unfamiliar with cricket watching. See how he simplistically assumes that a ball going on to hit the wickets is all that’s needed for an lbw decision. The goal is to nuture his cricket-liking, so you get him tickets for a test match on corporate hospitality. He makes a fool of himself when he asks which team is batting. He applauds too loudly. You teach him the laws. Slowly, though – too much information at any one time and he gives up and becomes a football fan. You carefully introduce him to different forms of the game, but take him to a county championship match too early and he’ll assume it’s a game for lonely people. If you get to the very top level, he starts to write his own cricket blog.

  12. I took somerset as my team in English county tournament in ICC 2001 and i would restrict the opposition team around 150-170 runs. All credits go to G.Swann, I.Blackwell, A.Giles and S.Afridi. Even Swann, Giles, Afridi and sometimes Blackwell would contribute nearly 70-100 runs. I depend only on 4 players and they win tournament for me.
