Additionally to the above, there's a bug in the PSP version (not sure if this is replicated in the PC version). Sent an email to Empire Support as follows;

"Howdy.

Essentially the problem went like this; I was playing a one-day match, batting second and had wickets in hand but lost a wicket on the last ball of the second innings. The game, of course, was over by that point but it wouldn't let me get past the screen where you select the next batsman. The game seemed to be stuck on the fact that even though there were no more balls left to be bowled, I had batsmen left over so the innings wasn't 'finished'. I couldn't go back to the main menu so had to shut down my PSP and restart the game, losing all progress to that point. "

Big bug, in my view. After a bit of to'ing and fro'ing, got the following reply;

"Thank you for your time regarding this.
We did previously pass the information to our QA and Developer Managers for their consideration.
Now that you have updated us regarding this we can reply with the following information that they have confirmed.
There is a bug in the game that can cause this issue to occur and unfortunately if this does happen then you will have to restart the game and loose any progress that has been made within the match. The developer is now aware of this but due to the nature of the software (PSP) no update can be made to correct this issue.
The match can be replayed and will completed if the criteria is not reproduced.
The developer apologises regarding this and it will be corrected in any further releases of the game."

So basically, tough bikkies mate. Yeah gee thanks Empire. Anyone think I should petition them for a new game or at least an exchange for an updated version?

The fantastic cricket management game that is Battrick is still going strong -- I think it's approaching the 10,000 user mark now.

http://www.battrick.org if you want to know more -- if you sign up, drop me a line and I'll give you a few pointers.

This week sees the first round of first class matches. Yes, first class -- three day games where you get to change orders at the end of each day. Playing against a real person, too. The one-day leagues are still going strong, and there's a T20 knockabout comp in each off-season.

Being a global game, there are international matches that carry the usual bitter rivalries. The English league is by far the biggest, but the Aussies want it more...no change there, then!

doesn't sound as good as Allan Borders cricket use to be?

I remember you could set it up so the ball was a practially a bouncer length and it would swing back into the stumps and it was unhittable.

Those were the days...

I love ICC 2006. Almost too much, if there's such a thing. It also gives me endless pleasure when I see one of my players translate their in-game success into real life success, such as Ian Bell and Stuart Broad. It kind of paves the way for Mark Davies and Will Jefferson. Quite interestingly, Andrew Flintoff is always an amazing dud for me.

Enough about that though. I get the feeling it's impossible to make a decent cricket simulation game. That being said, I hope someone proves me wrong. I really am praying for it.
