2013 County Championship – chapter eight

Same teams as last week. Slightly different order.

1st – Sussex

Sussex remain top. A draw with Nottinghamshire just about crept into this week’s update. Highly efficient eating device, Samit Patel, made 157 for Nottinghamshire in that match, while highly efficient wicket-gathering device, Chris Jordan, took nine wickets for Sussex. Sussex also drew with Middlesex. Let’s tell the story of that match in the next section in order to spread things out better.

2nd – Middlesex

The draw with Sussex saw Middlesex opener Chris Rogers score 184. It might seem desperate that Australia have called him up at the ripe old age of 35, but if they want someone to score runs in England then there are worse options. In fact, everybody’s a worse option because no-one’s scored more runs in the first division this year. Rogers was eventually dismissed by Steve Magoffin. No-one has taken more wickets than the Corinda Corolla. He’s Australian too and he’s only 33.

Also 2nd – Yorkshire

Yorkshire drew with Nottinghamshire, for whom Michael Lumb made 135. In reply, Andrew Gale made 272 and Gary Ballance made 141. Adil Rashid made a duck and now averages just 169.66 this season. Adam Lyth made seven, but it was a cracking seven. He hit a four and everything.

The next chapter

Middlesex host Yorkshire. Sussex host Surrey, who somehow aren’t bottom.

DON'T BE LIKE GATT!

Mike Gatting wasn't receiving the King Cricket email when he dropped that ludicrously easy chance against India in 1993.

Coincidence?

Why risk it when it's so easy to sign up?
